Pull Apart Cinnamon Bread

If you’ve ever been on Pinterest, chances are you’ve seen a gazillion pieces of furniture painted over with bright colored spray paint, heard about some ridiculous home remedies, learned how to make a gallon of laundry detergent for $0.05 and seen the most amazing photo of pull apart cinnamon bread. The image of pull apart cinnamon bread has been on my mind ever since I caught my first glimpse, I couldn’t stop thinking about it and decided to make my own.

It’s surprisingly really easy to make, I basically made my pizza dough recipe and substituted milk for water and butter for olive oil. If you’ve got an hour on a Sunday morning, to let the dough rise, I highly recommend this recipe.

1 cup milk

4 tbsp butter

3 tbsp sugar

1 pkg yeast

2 cups all purpose flour

1 cup bread flour

2 tbsp butter

1 tbsp cinnamon

3 tbsp sugar

Glaze (Optional)

1 tbsp maple syrup

1/4 cup powdered sugar

  1. In a medium saucepan, heat milk, 3 tbsp butter and sugar until sugar is dissolved.

  1. Remove from heat and place in a large glass bowl and when milk mixture cools slightly and becomes lukewarm and add yeast, stir until yeast is dissolved and let sit until yeast blooms and bubbles.

  2. Add flour and mix until dough forms a ball.

  1. Knead dough for 1-2 minutes, cover with 1 tbsp melted butter and place covered bowl in a warm dry place to rise for 1 hour.

  2. After dough has risen, roll out on a floured surface until dough is approximately 1/4″ thick.

  3. Mix cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl. Brush 2 tbsp melted butter over dough and sprinkle cinnamon and sugar mixture on top. Reserve 2 tsp of cinnamon and sugar mixture.

  1. Cut dough long ways into 1.5″ strips and stack them on top of each other and cut into 2″ squares.

  1. Butter a small baking dish, sprinkle with remaining 2 tsp cinnamon and sugar mixture and arrange dough in pan.

  1. Bake for 23-25 minutes until dough is slightly golden.

  2. For glaze, mix maple syrup and powdered sugar in a small bowl until glaze forms.
